Carers Trust Tyne & Wear is a local charity for, with and all about carers

Since 1990, Carers Trust Tyne and Wear, an independent charity, has championed unpaid carers of all ages in and around Gateshead. We connect carers facing the challenges of supporting loved ones with the services and recognition they deserve. As a network partner of the national Carers Trust, we’re part of the UK’s leading independent carer support network.

Our flexible, personalised services offer adult carers a well-deserved break, while supporting young carers in overcoming unique challenges they face.

Our mission: balance for carers

Caring for a loved one is rewarding, but demanding. Our mission is to empower you to find balance. We offer flexible services that support your well-being, caregiving confidence, and personal time.

Your partner in care

  • Respectful & dignified: We treat all carers with compassion.
  • Your voice matters: We actively involve carers in shaping our services.
  • Flexible support: Services available at home, online, and in the community.
  • Strong partnerships: We collaborate to enhance service quality and reach.

Together, we can help you thrive in your caring role.

Our vision is simple:
We want to see a better life for carers.

Carers Trust Tyne and Wear help carers to thrive. We provide essential services that enable them to balance caring responsibilities with personal well-being and a fulfilling life. We are:

Non-judgmental

Empathy and support to all carers, regardless of circumstances.

Innovative

Bringing creativity and innovation to the services that we develop.

Quality-driven

Providing the highest possible standard of professional service at all times.

Inclusive

Involving and integrating carers at every level in our organisation.

Meet the Team

Our dedicated team of Carer Support Workers

Our Carer Support Workers are based locally and many have experience of being a carer themselves. They step into the shoes of the carer for a while and take over their role. They provide a practical, personal and specialised service and can carry out any care task that enables the carer to have a break. This can happen in the home but you might see our team out in the community too.
